Vice-Chancellor, NLUJA Assam

Prof. (Dr.) K.V.S. Sarma is a distinguished Professor of Law at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad and is currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University and Judicial Academy in Assam, Guwahati, India. From August 20, 2019, to December 5, 2023, he was the Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He also held the position of Registrar at the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University of Law in Hyderabad from July 17, 2008, to July 25, 2011, and again from March 20, 2012, to February 27, 2013.

On September 5, 2018, Prof. Sarma received the “Best Teacher’s Award” from the State Government of Telangana. He was also conferred the “Viswakabi Rabindranath Tagore Award” by the Institute of Oriental Heritage, Kolkata, on March 2025, in recognition of his contributions to legal education and scholarship. Received World Education Congress Awards® 14th Edition ‘Fabulous Education Leaders’ on July 10, 2025 at Mumbai. He was instrumental in initiating and starting the MBA program at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad. He served as the “Consumer Law Chair Professor” at the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, New Delhi, at NALSAR University from 2016 to 2019, and again from January 20, 2024, to August 6, 2024.

Prof. Sarma is associated with the UPSC in various capacities and has been a member of the Standing Committee of the Legal Education Committee of the Bar Council of India since 2020. He was also a member of the “Standing Committee on Research Methodology for Research Projects of the BPR&D (Bureau of Police Research & Development), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India” from 2020 to 2022. He is part of the Academic Advisory Committee for the Human Resource Development Centre at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Chatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. He is a member of the Board of Management (BoM) of Assam Administrative Staff College Society (AASCS), Assam and a Member of the Board of Management (BoM) of Judicial Academy, Assam.

Additionally, he serves as an external examiner for Ph.D. and LL.D. theses at various universities and is a visiting faculty member at several national-level institutions in India. Prof. Sarma is also a professional arbitrator and mediator. From 2010 to 2018, he was a member and Vice Chairman of the “Ethics Committee” at Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad. He was enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh on November 11, 1983.

Prof. Sarma has authored several notable works, including: Modern Law of Insurance in India, published by Lexis Nexis Butterworth India, with a foreword by N. A. Palkhivala. Indian Penal Code, published by Lexis Nexis Butterworth India, with a foreword by Justice Jeevan Reddy, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Chairman of the Law Commission of India. Law of Contract Administration and Tenders, published by Asia Law House, Hyderabad, with a foreword by Justice Madan B. Lokur, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India. COVID-19 and the Future of Higher Education in India, published by Palgrave Macmillan, Switzerland, as one of the four editors.
